Chambers Cove, Newfoundland

I was on the Burin Penninsula when Hurricane Gustav landed just to the west. This is a picture from the next day when the rain had mostly ended but the wind and waves were still going full tilt. This is at Chambers Cove where two destroyers (USS Wilkes and USS Pollux) and a supply ship (USS Truxum) were sunk in a hurricane in February 1942. The survivors came ashore and were assisted by the locals.
